Curriculum

Reading books, singing songs, and visual picture sequencing are used to create critical literacy building blocks in our young learners. Older classes focus on letter recognition and phonetic awareness, allowing children to develop their confidence and the skills necessary to become successful readers.

Reading

Handwriting

The Learning Without Tears Curriculum is used in both whole group and individual instruction. The program is designed to establish the essential fine and gross motor skills needed for success in writing. The curriculum uses various hands-on materials and purposeful play to teach the pre-writing skills needed for future academic success.

Math

Number awareness and early math skills are taught to help children begin to understand the relationship between numbers and simple mathematical concepts.

Science

Science is incorporated in the classes to develop personal curiosity, critical thinking skills, and improving communication among peers. Engaging experiments and explorations are used as a different way to explore materials, make predictions, and to better understand cause and effect.

Spanish

The 4-year-old and Kindergarten Transition classes have Spanish class once a week. Their teacher uses many engaging techniques to expose our young learners to a second language.

Music

Music is enjoyed by each age group. Each child has a chance to play rhythm instruments and practice body movement. The older children are also exposed to different kinds of dance. Music instruction is provided Monday through Friday.

Instilling creativity is a vital part of our daily instruction.  Children of all ages create art while exploring all subject matters. The process of art is emphasized over the product. A variety of materials, conventional and otherwise are used.

Playground

Each class has a daily scheduled playground period. Our equipment gives ample opportunity for growth in gross motor skill development and imaginative play. During inclement weather, the children use the Youth Hall for indoor activities.

The 4 year old and KT children have a service twice weekly. This includes a story aimed at a child’s understanding, recitation of the Lord’s Prayer and music. The 3 year old classes attend chapel weekly beginning second semester.

Chapel

The 4 year old and KT children have approximately 2 field trips per year. We do not have activities for 2 & 3 year old children which require them to leave the school grounds. Instead, they are treated to several inschool visits by fireman, policemen, etc.

Field Trips

Library

Our in-house children’s library is used by all classes. 4 year and KT children have formal library presentations twice monthly.
